The Help - Movie Review

The Help is a movie about Black maids living in Jackson, Mississippi during the 1960's civil rights movement.  Its an interesting movie but is essentially a lighthearted chick flick.  The issues of segregation, discrimination, and racism were real and the working conditions were tough but the movie comes short of displaying the gritty and rough life of Black workers faced in the South.  Instead, the movie became a fluffy, feel-good Hallmark movie meant to appeal to suburban white women.  The movie stays away from fully showing dark or intense emotions of cruelty or violence.
